Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education
Aims
At Scapegoat Hill and Linthwaite Clough Federation (SLCF), we aim to build upon the child’s ‘Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education by developing a range of knowledge, skills and British values, through studying key areas which are designed to develop independent, well rounded and respectful individuals.
Intent
PSHE is at the core of what we do and we strive to ensure that the curriculum is accessible to all, which enables our children to become independent, confident, healthy and responsible members of society, as well as developing the “whole child” intellectually, morally, socially and culturally. Through our whole-school approach to PSHE, it is our belief that excellence in these areas will lead to excellence across the curriculum and beyond in later life.

PSHE is taught across the federation from Early years, Year1- Year 6 on a weekly basis and as a school, we follow the SCARF PSHE scheme in line with government guidance with additional support and resources from the PSHE Association. We have implemented a spiral curriculum to run throughout each phase based upon our children’s voices. This ensures our PSHE curriculum equips children with relevant and meaningful content, which is supported through a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health. This is enriched further through the use of books, music, rich and varied assemblies which reinforce the ideals of PSHE and British Values.
Impact
With an ever-changing society, we are able to provide our children with a strong understanding of the diverse world around them and to support them in developing their self-worth. They will learn about themselves, understand how their decisions can impact others, be able to evaluate their choices and the consequences of their actions. They will also learn to take responsibility for themselves and be able to advocate for others. This will ensure that they can play a positive role in contributing to the school and the wider community as well as giving them an understanding of the many physical, moral, social and cultural issues they will face as a part of growing up.
