We have used the National Curriculum as a basis to create an ambitious and engaging curriculum, which allows all children to develop a love of modern foreign languages. We have chosen to deliver French to prepare our children for further language study at Key Stage 3. French also fits alongside our Key Stage 2 geography units of work on modern Europe.
Leaders have planned a curriculum sequenced from the beginning of Key Stage 2 through to clearly defined endpoints at the end of Key Stage 2.
Across KS2, learning consists of 6 half-termly units of work that progressively teaches new, and spirals already taught, knowledge and understanding of the chosen language. There is a focus on the following four elements: listening and responding, speaking, reading and writing.
In the attached file, you will find our curriculum plan for children in years 3 to 6.
